When you talk about holidays, you do not really think, Hey, let’s go to Romania ! However, it is a really nice country with a continental climat which provides great sun during the summer and a lot of snow during the winter. Thus it is a nice destination to enjoy long walks in the forests and the mountains or party all night long on the beach (seashores are often the first destination for romanian students during the summer to enjoy the beaches and the bars during the holidays ).
Except, we are in november… It is not really the summer warm and not yet the winter snow. So no ski nor swimming.
But we are going back to my national origin and the Man will discover the country where I was born. We are going to take a deep breath of the Carpat’s air, eat and take a lot of pictures (hoping we meet a little bear…)
Direct flight from Paris to Bucarest, we retrive the car and drive towards Brașov (150 km… 2h30, normal). Good weather, the setting sun offers a great light on the skyline.
We will spend one week in Brașov, in the heart of Transylvania and roam about the region.
Brașov
Brașov is situated in the middle of the country, in the center of the Carpat’s mountains. It is my native city.
The historical center of Brașov (Kronstadt in German) is full of colors and rather well preserver in comparaison to the communist buildings built all around and in the suburbs.
The first days are dedicated to travel around the city :

We decide to go to the white tower and to enjoy a pretty nice view over the city :
On the road back to the city center, we meet some street art performances that remind us Lisboa !
However Brașov, as many places in Romania, is full of churches:
There is a cable-car in Brașov that brings you on “Timpa”, the mountain in front of the city, and from where you see the whole city and the valley when the time is sunny, as it was for us !!
Poiana Brașov
During these days in Brașov we decide to take the car and go to a great and well-known restaurant in Poiana Brașov, the ski station, 10km higher in the mountains. Obviously, in november there is no snow, but the colors are beautiful.
We drive towards the “Coliba Haiducilor” : “THE” restaurant of Poiana. The decoration is very typical and… sober :
And the food and beers are great !
The “Sarmale” (minced meet wrapped in cabbage leaves, lard, polenta and a small pepper !)
And finally it is after nightfall that we return to the appartment !
